Sarah N. Cervera was born and raised in El Paso.  As a child, Sarah spent a lot of time outdoors exploring the natural environment around her so her mother could always count on finding rocks, lizards or the find of the day in her overalls. When she took an Introduction to Geology course at UTEP, she fell in love with the discipline. While pursuing a B.S. degree in Geology, Sarah was given an opportunity to work in the Geology Department with PACES (Pan American Center for Earth and Environmental Studies).  In this program, she found her niche as a Structural Geologist.  She has performed field mapping, structural analysis, and investigated the Chiracahua Mountain Range in Arizona, the Franklin Mountains in West Texas, and the Needle Mountains of Colorado.  Sarah studied the East Potrillo Fault Scarp in Southern New Mexico for her Master’s degree.  During her M.S. work, she was a member of several Geology and Sciences organizations such as GSA, AGU, and SACNAS. She took a lecture position in the spring of 2007 in the UTEP Geosciences Department teaching Introduction to Geology courses.   Then Sarah worked in the private industry sector with an environmental company from the summer of 2007 to the summer of 2008. She started her Ph.D. studies in the summer of 2008 in the Geosciences.
