The Applied Information Sciences Branch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is heavily involved in technology outreach and transfer. As part of this activity, we recognized the need for a highly intuitive, easily accessible remote sensing tutorial that hopefully will
serve as a primer for the new user as well as a teaching tool for the educational community. We wanted this tutorial to provide a detailed understanding of the utility of the data in light of the fundamental principles of electromagnetic energy, especially as they relate to sensor design and function.
- Virtually Hawaii!!
The primary objective of the Virtually Hawaii project is to assemble a data base of satellite, space shuttle (such as the example above), and aircraft remote sensing images covering the state of Hawaii. These images will be available via the Internet, along with hand-held ground photographs and descriptive and educational text. By providing direct access to NASA image data and their descriptions, we hope to enable individuals all over the world to learn about Hawaii, thereby enhancing the primary industry in Hawaii, tourism. Tourism is economically vital to Hawaii, attracting over five million visitors each year to enjoy the beauty of the islands.

MultiSpec is being developed at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, by David Landgrebe and Larry Biehl from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and LARS.
